Reflectashield

Reflectashield® is a high-performance breather membrane specifically designed to enhance the thermal performance of timber and steel frame structures.

Reflectashield® reduces the thermal transmittance (U-value) of walls by introducing a reflective surface in the cavity between the frame and outer cladding, thereby inhibiting radiant heat transfer across the cavity.

Description

As the membrane’s breathability is not compromised by its thermal properties, Reflectashield® continues to act effectively to minimise the risk of condensation. Reflectashield® breather membranes help assist the diffusion of moisture from the building and reduce the condensation risk. Combining the proven benefits of a breather membrane and adding a low-emissivity reflective surface helps reduce heat loss through the cavity wall system.

Reflective Breather Membrane – Products Features

• Reflectashield is a vapour permeable, low emissivity reflective membrane

• The Reflective face is specifically designed to enhance the thermal performance of the structure to which it is applied

• Excellent breathability minimises condensation risk and controls water vapour transfer

• Allows protection of timber and light gauge steel frames, SIPS and CLT Panels from wind driven rain, snow and dust during construction, together with the controlled release of vapour from the structure

• Fabric Weight 134g/m2

Installation

Reflectashield should be fixed to frames using austenitic stainless steel nails or staples at centres not exceeding 500mm, ensuring the Reflective side is facing outward and on the exterior of the structure. Where the material is to be lapped, these should be as below:

• Vertical Laps – not less than 150mm

• Horizontal Laps – not less than 100mm

Ensure integrity of Reflectashield by overlapping upper layers over lower layers and staggering vertical joints. Overlap wall / sole plate with membrane and mark stud positions for wall fixings.

Penetrations and tears should be closed off using silver tape, with tears greater than 25mm to be covered by Reflectashield patches with a min 100mm lap around the perimeter and well sealed with silver tape.
